Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday asked the Punjab government to review its education policy.
The minister was talking to journalists at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. She said that no compromise would be made over basic rights of the masses and it seemed that the Punjab government was not paying attention to the education sector owing to which result delays and paper leakage incidents were surfacing in the province.
To a question regarding Matric results in Punjab, the federal information minister said that Punjab is not only effluent in resources but in problems as well. Firdous said that the Sharif brothers should take a decision regarding declaration of Matric results in all educational boards of the province without any further delay. The minister said that the federal government respected the judiciary and all its decisions would be implemented in letter and spirit. “There was ambiguity regarding appointment of the FIA DG, which has been clarified and the government would ensure implementation of decision of the apex court,” she said.
Regarding abolition of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), she said that NAB represents sentiments of the masses and the process of accountability of the corrupt would be disrupted if NAB was abolished. Firdous said that NAB was not being disbanded, as it was necessary to check corruption in society adding that approval of parliament would be sought on NAB through legislation, if needed.
The minister said that the federal government had also approached the opposition leader for his opinion on the NAB issue. About de-weaponising in Karachi, she said that the federal government would consult peace committees on the issue and Karachi would be de-weaponised if the committee recommended.
