The Afghanistan cricket team may play in Pakistan’s national T20 tournament to be staged later this year. An official of the Pakistan Cricket Board said that the Afghanistan cricket has expressed interest in playing in a twenty20 event. Sultan Rana, PCB’s director domestic cricket, said that the board has received the request and says the likely 14th team for the competition in September and October “will be Afghanistan.”
The event to be organized in Rawalpindi and Islamabad will feature two teams each from Lahore and Karachi, plus nine regional sides. Pakistan has not hosted any of the world’s leading teams since gunmen attacked Sri Lanka’s team bus in 2009. Afghanistan would be making its second trip to the country this year, having lost a one-day series 3-0 to Pakistan A in May.
