The Karachi Transport Association (KTA) has urged the Police Department to take necessary measures for smooth traffic flow at all busy thoroughfares of the metropolis.
According to a press release issued by the association on Sunday, KTA office-bearers including its president Mohammed Ashraf and others said that the transporters are facing problems maintaining the transport network in the city due to traffic jams.
“There are serious problems regarding the performance of the traffic police and transporters are also facing troubles due to the continuous suspension of power supply to the main traffic signals,” the KTA office-bearers said in the statement.
The KTA demanded that special measures should be taken to run the traffic signals through solar power that would not only help save energy but also provide free of charge traffic flow in a cheap manner.
They also complained that the traffic police were not available to monitor the flow of traffic during peak hours.
They urged the Traffic Engineering Bureau to check all the non-functioning traffic signals in the city and facilitate the commuters and transporters in the larger interest of the public.
