On Monday a civil court sent Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan on a 14-day judicial remand to Adyala Jail for his alleged involvement in a fraud case. Senior Civil Judge Mehmood Haroon Khan granted Aqeel this remand after the completion of his physical remand. The Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) has produced him before the court. Aqeel’s medical treatment report was presented in the court, the report stated that he was suffering from heart disease. Aqeel’s legal consul, Inam Minhas requested that in light of his medical condition and the alleged agreement with the complainant, the case against Aqeel should be dismissed. The court, after hearing the arguments against Aqeel dismissed this request. A source told Pakistan Today that the National Police Foundation (NFP) had paid Rs .5 million to Shabahat Ali, the complainant. In 2010, the Shalimar Police Station registered FIR no 115 in against Aqeel on the complaint of Ali, a teacher and a resident of sector I-8/4. Ali had accused Aqeel of taking Rs 950000 from him and the failing to repay. Meanwhile, Syed Akhlaq Ahmad Shah, a Special Judge, extended the interim bail of Aqeel in the NPF scam case till August 2.
