The Potohari Art and Craft (PAC) Board has decided to hold fortnightly festivals until the end of December in Shakarparian. The board meeting was held at PAC Village Shakarparian. PAC Village is a joint venture of Indus Heritage Trust and CDA situated at Shakarparian.
Indus Heritage will be the first festival that will start from October 1. Traditional artisans, singers and performers from along the River Indus will participate in the festival. Traditional food from Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pukhtunkhawa, Balochistan, Swat, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir will be a constant feature throughout all festivals. The board also decided that art students from schools, colleges and universities would be provided lodging at Potohari, where they would interact with artisans and learn about their indigenous culture. A one-year plan for Artists Retreat was shared in the meeting. The board members also noted the problems being faced by restaurants at Potohari. A meeting will be held on Monday to address the problems and concerns faced by the restaurant business owners.
The meeting was attended by Khalid Javed from Lok Virsa (Pakistan Crafts Council), Zahid from AHAN, Nasir Malik from National College of Arts, Abida Malik from Behbood Association, Asma Ravji from Sungi Development Foundation, Imran Nafees Saddiqui from Dugdagi and Anees Jillani and Samina Khan from Indus Heritage Trust.
