FAST holds convocation

FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences held its 25th convocation on Saturday at its Lahore campus.
The ceremony was attended by Rector Dr Amir Muhammad, Secretary General Rana Ghulam Shabbir, FAST Dean Dr Ayub Alvi, Director of Lahore Campus Dr Arshad Hussain, Humanities and Social Sciences Department Head Dr Sumera Sarfraz and a large number of students, parents and faculty members.
Delivering his welcome speech, Dr Arshad Hussain said, β€œIt is an honourable event for all of us that we are here at this auspicious occasion of the 25th convocation. Its parents trust upon us that over 9,000 students took the entry test for admission into FAST.”
He said that needy and talented students are helped with the financial assistance programme of the university, named Qarz-e-Hasna, and it reached up to Rs 50 million this year. Arshad said that the Punjab government is also collaborating with the university for this great cause and providing brilliant students with financial support through its educational endowment fund so that students who could not support themselves with ease, could cope with financial difficulties in getting education.
This year, 290 undergraduates and 170 graduates were awarded degrees by Dr Muhammad Amir. In the BBA programme, Asia Khalil, Sonal Shahid and Shiza Zafar were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals respectively while in management sciences, Khawaja Wasey Shoaib, Saba Masood and Abeeda Akram were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals for their outstanding position in academics.
