Britain to continue assistance for Swat’s rehabilitation, says Thomson

British High Commissioner in Pakistan Adman Thomson on Saturday said his government, in collaboration with the government of Pakistan, was working on a number of rehabilitation projects in Swat, including the construction of 140 schools and 10 link bridges in the militancy-hit district.
He said the British government was assisting the Pakistani government in several projects with a view to promote education in Swat, where most of the schools and colleges had been destroyed out washed away by floods.
The British envoy was speaking after inaugurating Akhund Baba Shagai Link Bridge at Saidu Sharif on Saturday. Head of DFID George Kiston and Brig Naeem of Pakistan Army were also present on the occasion.
Elaborating on his views, Thomson said the British government was providing assistance to the Pakistani government in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure in Swat, adding that the assistance would continue in the future.
He said Britain had been part of consistent efforts to promote education in the region that had suffered immensely on various fronts due to insurgency.
The British envoy praised the efforts of the Pakistan Army for purging the area of militancy and restoring peace.
