The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Al-Haram College of Education, Faisalabad to immediately issue roll numbers slips to students who were denied permission to appear in examinations commending from today (Saturday) allegedly on non-payment of tuition fees to the college.
The judge directed the vice-chancellor of the University of Sargodha not to announce results of the examination until the final decision on the matter pending before the court. Justice Khalid Mehmood issued the order on dozens of civil miscellaneous applications filed by Aneela Iqbal and other students submitting that the college illegally withheld their roll number slips ahead of examinations of the first semester of masters’ classes.
The petitioners, through their counsel Zulfiqar Ali Moazzam, submitted that they deposited examination fees and second instalment of the semester but were not being permitted to appear in the examination by the college. Al Haram College of Education Physical Education Department Head Hussain Muhammad and vice-chancellor of the University of Sargodha were respondents in the petitions.
The students alleged that the collage is demanding payment of dues of second semester in advance before examinations of the first semester which, they said, is unlawful and injustice to students who have paid fees of the first semester with great difficulty. On notices from the court, the college’s counsel, appearing in court, rejected photocopies of receipts placed on record by the petitioners saying that most of the fee receipts were bogus and fake.
The counsel claimed that roll number slips have been received by the college from the university but the same have been withheld due to non-payment of tuition fee. In the main petitions, students have challenged the college’s fee structure, which according to them aims at minting money from students in various ways.
