The Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Friday formed the Media Watch Society to groom students in the art of information dissemination and critical news analysis. Established at the university level, the society would give students experience on the working of leading newspapers and television channels. It would organize conferences, debates, seminars and training workshops and invite lectures by renowned opinion makers. It would also generate internship opportunities for GCU students by creating linkages between well-established media houses and the GC U.
GCU Public Relations Department Head Musaddiq Sultan is appointed the adviser of the society.
GCU Societies Board Chairman Professor Mirza Ather Baig said the establishment of Media Watch Society would enrich the scope of co-curricular activities and would provide a platform to students to interact with professional journalists. He said it would also pave way to reflect the rich academic and cultural life of the university in print and electronic media.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikramul Haq said the diverse cultural milieu at the GCU is an off-shoot of more than 44 societies and clubs jointly run by the students and the staff advisors. He congratulated Musaddiq, saying the formation of Media Watch Society was long overdue and that it is hoped that it would work to achieve the objectives envisioned by its founders.
