The federal capital is all set to have 11 new courts and 101 more judges, Pakistan Today learnt on Friday.
The courts will be setup under the Islamabad High Court Act 2010, while the judges would be appointed under Islamabad Judicial Service rules, published in Gazette of Pakistan on July 13, 2011.
A senior official of the Law Ministry told Pakistan Today that the new courts would be set up in the buildings of Federal Judicial Complex located in Sector G-11/1.
The official said that since construction work on the Federal Judicial Complex was underway, it was expected that the new courts would be functional in the next six to eight months. Talking about the appointments of the new Judges, the official said 80 fresh judges would be appointed, while 21 Judges – 15 sessions and six senior civil Judges – would be inducted on open merit. “Of the total 101 judges -fifteen sessions and six senior civil judges who have been working in various courts of the country would be directly appointed on open merit, while 80 seats would be given to lawyers after taking exams,” the official said.
He said 50 percent quota had been reserved for lawyers who were residents of Islamabad and had local domiciles. “The remaining 40 seats will be filled by lawyers from across the country,” he added.
According to the Islamabad High Court Act 2010, labour court, banking court, special judge central court, custom court, accountability court, environmental protection tribunal, anti-terrorism court, drug court, consumer court, and anti-narcotic court are to be set up in Islamabad. Two sessions courts, Sessions Court East and West, will also be established.
