The position holders of the Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations 2011 were presented their awards on Friday.
According to a press release, the awards were presented by last year’s top performers at a ceremony symbolising the continuing journey of knowledge from person to person.
This year, Hani Ghulam Abbas of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karimabad, with 88 percent marks was awarded the HSSC first position.
Asma Gulab of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Hunza with 87.82 percent marks and Raaza Malja of Mianwali Education Trust College with 87.64 percent marks were awarded the second and third positions, respectively, overall in Pakistan.
The top three SSC position holders to be awarded included Hooria Imran of Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan School with 93.55 percent marks, Komal Zehra Zaidi of al Murtaza School (Girls Branch) with 93.45 percent marks and Sarah Salahuddin of Shahwilayat Public School with 92.82 percent marks.
Last year’s position holders, who are attending leading colleges and universities across Pakistan, presented the certificates to this year’s top six position holders.
“It is exciting to honour the 2011 award recipients. AKU-EB challenges its students to go beyond the usual, to research extensively, to exchange ideas with peers and teachers and to critically analyse each piece of information that its students come across. This is what University life demands of us to succeed,” said Mahek Rajani, AKU-EB 2010 batch student and HSSC third position holder, currently enrolled in the MBBS programme at the Dow University of Health Sciences.
Students from the AKU-EB class of 2010 have been admitted to 114 institutes of higher education across Pakistan and abroad, according to a survey conducted by AKU-EB.
Principals of the schools represented by the position holders were also invited to the ceremony.
“This is an excellent platform for reuniting our current students and the alumni to learn from one another. It also gives us an opportunity to see how our students have progressed over the years thanks to the AKU-EB system,” said Tasneem Shabbar, director of the al Murtaza School.
The AKU-EB said in the press release that it hopes to continue the “Passing the Torch” ceremony as an annual tradition.
