Saba Aziz of Lahore won the ladies singles title of the first Aisam ul Haq Master Tennis Tournament after defeating Sara Mansoor in a three set thriller here at PTF Tennis Complex on Thursday. The final score-line was 7-6(5), 6-2 and 6-0.
In the first set, Sara Mansoor won the set by 7-6 at tie break. In the second set Saba Aziz changed the strategy and started playing long rallies from the baseline and won the second set at 6-2. She was in full command in the final set and made a number of aces, forehand and backhand passing shorts and won the final set without conceding a single game.
This was the second title of Saba Aziz, which she got after wasting 2 hours and 45 minutes in the court for the final. In the boys’ under-18 final, the top seed Muhammad Abid Mushtaq won the title after beating Usman Rafiq 6-1, 6-0. Muhammad Abid played best tennis of the tournament and made number of winners cross court and down the lines to win the final without any resistance from his opponent Usman Rafiq from Lahore.
The match lasted 1 hour 20 minutes. In the under-14 singles final, the second seed Hasnain Manzoor of Lahore defeated top seed Muhammad Mudasir in a thrilling and well contested two set encounter. Hasnain won the first set 6-4 and he also won the second set in the same manner. The both players displayed quality tennis from the baseline, a large number of tennis fan witness the final. The match lasted 1 hour 45 minutes.
The men’s singles final between Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan will be played today at the same venue.
