The Sindh Assembly is scheduled to resume proceedings of the current session after a gap of a week on Friday (today), which is not expected to be as stormy as the first day because the relationship of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has improved with positive measures taken by both parties during the break.
The MQM members would formally sit on the Opposition benches as the party has decided not to be a part of the government in the first phase. The party’s lawmakers would not act aggressively like they had on the first day of the proceedings held on July 13.
Similarly, the PPP would also not put forward any legislation that is against the wishes of the MQM. It is for this reason that no controversial item has been included in the Order of the Day prepared by the Sindh Assembly Secretariat in consultation with the Law Department. According to official sources, only one new bill has been kept on the agenda of the day, regarding the establishment of Sufi University in Bhit Shah.
Besides that, the House would be informed that the governor (former acting governor Nisar Ahmed Khuhro) has given his consent to three bills passed by the Assembly. The bills were sent to the governor after the House had passed these bills during the stormy proceedings of July 13. The bills included restoration of the old commissionerate system through repealing the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001 and reviving the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 1979. Two other bills included repealing the Police Order 2002 and reviving the Police Act 1861, and Sindh Land Revenue (Amendment) Ordinance 2011.
