On corruption

It is said that the rulers that are imposed on a nation reflect its action and that nations get what they deserve in the form of leaders. If today, we say that we are being ruled by corrupt rulers then it also demands that we direct our attention towards analysing ourselves as a nation. If today, society condones corrupt behaviour then it’s a large scale societal issue and not a political one.

If politics is the art of possibilities, then society creates such possibilities where corrupt rulers come into power and the chain reaction begins. Today, it’s a need that we as a responsible nation begin self analysis of our depleting value system, our religiosity and our collective inertia which is obstructing our response towards modern day issues. In this regard, ijtihad can play a pivotal role. Instead of expecting our rulers to find any political solution for it, we should do it ourselves. Our individual effort might not be the entire solution but it might contribute to it.
