Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said that the government highly appreciates the tribesmen’s services for peace and would take them on board in its efforts for peace and development in the North Waziristan Agency.
The governor, however, urged the elders to cooperate with the government to purge the Agency of the mischievous and extremist elements so that peace in the Agency could take firm and permanent roots.
The governor said this was talking to the chiefs of three major tribes of North Waziristan Agency; Malik Nasrullah Khan Utmanzai Wazir, Malik Qadar Khan Madda Khel Wazir and Malik Mamoor Khan Turi Khel Wazir on Friday. The elders were called for a meeting with the governor to consult matters relating to the North Waziristan Agency at the Governor’s House.
In a period of less then a week, it was the second meeting of North Waziristan tribal elders with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor.
In the previous meeting, the tribal elders had denied presence of foreign militants including the Haqqani network in North Waziristan. And they had opposed any military action in their part of the tribal belt.
In the Friday’s meeting, the tribal elders assured the governor that they would ensure peace in the Agency.
They said they won’t allow anyone to disturb the ‘peaceful’ atmosphere of the Agency. The elders expressed their gratitude for the governor’s interest in the development of tribal areas and hoped that the new financial year would bring peace and development in the FATA.
The governor said that the tribesmen had greatly suffered in recent years due to militancy and extremism provoked by ‘outsiders’ and that those elements were bringing a bad name to peace-loving tribesmen.
The governor said that more than Rs 1.5 billion had been allocated for the development in the Agency to be spent during the current financial year.
He also mentioned the construction of Bannu Ghulam Khan Road and other projects including small dams, up gradation of educational and health institutes etc.
