Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah called on Governor Latif Khosa on Wednesday to reduce the escalating tension between the Governor House and the provincial government.
Governor House sources claimed that the meeting was in a pleasant atmosphere and would have good impact on the Punjab government and governor house working relations. They said that the relations of CM house with Governor House were not ideal these days as the had recently raised objections over the appointment of vice chancellors of universities, worsening law and order situation in the province and the refusal of bureaucracy to brief the governor over various projects.
Both the government organs discussed the administrative matters at length including law and order and appointment of vice chancellors (VCs). Later, the chief secretary, health and education secretaries also met the governor. Chief Secretary Punjab Nasir Mehmood Khosa, Secretary Law Abul Hassan Najmi and Secretary Higher Education Haseeb Athar were also present on the occasion.
Khosa said everyone should discharge their duties as per law and constitution for the welfare of the masses as well as smooth functioning of the administrative control of the province. Khosa said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani had promoted a policy of reconciliation in order to pull the country out of various challenges. He said the supremacy of law and constitution ensures the protection of the rights of people, adding that all political parties will have to set political interests aside for strengthening the public institutions. He urged all political forces to get together and adopt a common strategy for the prosperity of the province. The law minister assured the governor that all administrative matters would be run with mutual consultation in the larger interest of the people of Punjab.
It is notable here that the meeting is being declared very important in the prevailing political situation in the province. Few days ago, Punjab governor had called the provincial secretaries to brief him on the provincial matters but the officers had refused to go to the governor’s House. After returning from UK, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the governor did not have the authority to receive direct briefing. Furthermore, Governor Khosa expressed his concern over the law and order situation in the province and asked about the measures taken in this regard.
