Keeping in view the increasing crime rate in areas coming under the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), the authority, for the first time, has officially allowed law enforcement personnel, particularly police and Rangers, to take strict action against offenders, according to the DHA’s Security Plan for 2011 available with Pakistan Today.
It is for the first time that the DHA has openly allowed the entry of law enforcement agencies to patrol the area and take action against criminals in order to make the city’s posh area crime-free.
A point of concern for the residents of DHA, however, is the ban on private security guards from displaying weapons, an official at the authority’s headquarters told Pakistan Today.
The DHA administration has chalked out a new security plan, urging the residents to extend cooperation with administration, law enforcement agencies and the DHA’s Vigilance Branch.
A number of factors are responsible for an increase in crimes in recent days and the authority has formulated the new security plan incorporating police, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the DHA Vigilance Branch to make the area crime-free as no security plan can succeed without due cooperation and involvement of residents.
According to the new guidelines to be enforced by the DHA with the help of law enforcing agencies, the law enforcement agencies’ personnel have been directed to confiscate weapons being flaunted by personal guards within the areas falling under the DHA. However, the security guards of various private security companies, being employed by a number of DHA residents, would follow their own rules and regulations.
Only authorised number plates would be allowed on vehicles and fancy number plates will be confiscated by police and Rangers personnel. As tinted glasses are strictly prohibited, strict action would be taken against the violators.
DHA residents using their houses as guest houses have been asked to get registered with the DHA and provide all particulars of guests staying with them on regular basis. The residents have also been requested to get security verification of their domestic aides and register them at respective police stations as well as with the DHA Vigilance Branch. The servants will then be issued proper passes by the authority.
