Livestock, which is the sole source of income for many people in Dera Ismail Khan’s largest Tehsil Kulachi, has been exposed to extreme risks, owing to the apathy of tehsil’s veterinary hospital where a junior cadre official is performing a highly specialised task for last four months.
People have repeated filed complaints urging the authorities concerned to depute an expert veterinary officer but to no avail.
The situation is casting adverse impact on the growth and development of the livestock in the area. “My cows have developed certain symptoms and I approached the doctor who suggested me to apply primitive methods for cure instead of prescribing the relevant medicine”,
Sibgatullah, a milkman, who recently lost his five cows, told Pakistan Today. According to a survey there are many farmers who had been going through similar ordeal.
A written complaint to this effect has also been dispatched to the department of Livestock and Dairy Development Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however its response and action is still awaited. Presently, the Veterinary Assistant (VA) Abdul Rasheed is looking after the hospital affairs and has miserably failed to live up to the task.
People, especially farmers have also complained about the VA’s wrongdoings. They say he unduly demands a private fee when asked to go visit a cowshed to administer drugs to animals. Livestock in Damaan desert of D I Khan is the sole mean of earning for cattle-rearing people and any neglect on the part of quarters concerned can have serious repercussions.
There’s still no concern of higher authorities
