No central contracts for Afridi, Malik

The Pakistan Cricket Board has finalised a list of 20 players for the central contracts for the next six months and former captains Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik have failed to make the list.
It has been learnt that the return of Shahid Afridi to international cricket is not sure and he has not even detailed his availability to the PCB after announcing conditional retirement while Malik has not satisfied the PCB integrity committee about his conduct and the details of his assets.
There are also chances that former captain Younus Khan may also be sidelined and the board is looking for a right time show him the doors.
The PCB had already dropped Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq and Kamran Akmal from the previous central contract list and these players have not even staked claim for place in the team in the domestic cricket. Danish Kaneria has entered into a legal battle against the PCB and since the case is with the court no progress can me made in his case without the directive of the court.
As of Malik he has yet to clear his accounts and the money spent of different occasions. According to sources, Malik failed to convince the PCB integrity committee about an amount of £ 90,000 in his account. “In Malik’s case he has provided everything that was asked for by the integrity committee of the board except for the questions surrounding the fate of the 90,000 pounds,” an official said.
Another report quoted a source that the amount was found backdated in one of Malik’s accounts but was missing in the latest bank statement he submitted to PCB’s integrity committee. “The integrity committee asked him to explain where he had spent the amount but so far he has been unable to give a satisfactory reply to them,” the report said. “Malik has told the committee that he gave loans to some of his friends but is unable to give details of the people he has given the amount to,” he added.
Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt had said that Malik’s performance at domestic level and his record in one-day internationals is good and that Pakistan team needs an all-rounder of Malik’s caliber.
“I have myself spoken to him and given him brotherly advice that he should just satisfy the integrity committee about this issue and he is clear to play for Pakistan,” Butt had said. Malik last played for Pakistan on the tour of England last year but since then he has been ignored for selection and was also not considered for the World Cup.
