The security branch should increase use of metal detectors at Friday prayers in the city and ensure maintenance of peace at mosques with close co-operation of citizens, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir said on Thursday.
He directed policemen to use walk-through gates extensively for security purpose and asked divisional SPs to personally review duty of all policemen deployed at shrines and imambargahs, along with ensuring continuous patrolling of their respective areas in an effective manner. Tahir directed the Lahore Police that parking of all vehicles and motorcycles should be well away from important buildings, including mosques and imambarghas.
The CCPO directed policemen to ensure a comprehensive strategy for maintenance of security at Friday prayers, through frequent checking and arrange parking at safe distant places. He also called for ensuring cooperation of citizens in this regard. Tahir said that code of ethics, formulated with the help of various schools of thought, ought to be strictly implemented, according to which there is a strict ban on all provocative and hate-mongering speeches.
The CCPO said that close co-operation of citizens is highly essential to thwart the nefarious aims of anti-state elements. Tahir also appealed to citizens to keep a watchful eye on their surroundings and in case they observe any suspicious activity, inform Emergency 15 immediately.
