The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered the chairman of Department of Geography, University of the Punjab, to allow a student of MPhil to continue his education, putting aside personal grudges.
The court issued the order on Imran Siddique Kaukab’s petition. The petitioner submitted that he took admission in MPhil in 2009 however when Dr Abdul Ghaffar was appointed as chairman of the department in 2010, he expelled all MPhil students saying the department had no record of them. The petitioner said he, along with other students, visited the chairman’s office several times to discuss the issue which led the chairman to develop a grudge against him. As a result, the chairman allowed all other students to continue education except the petitioner.
The petitioner said the chairman did not allow him to continue on the grounds that he was a 3rd division student overall. To refute this allegation, the petitioner showed his MPhil first and second semester result card which displayed excellent performance. The chairman, on appearance in court, submitted that the petitioner was holding a fake result card.
On Wednesday, Assistant Professor Safdar Ali Sherazi and former chairman Dr Tabassum Jamal appeared in the court saying the petitioner’s result card was genuine. At this, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Khan accepted Imran’s petition, allowing him to continue his studies at PU.
