Head of the Gilgit-Baltistan National Movement Dr Ghulam Abbas filed a petition challenging appointments of retired judges in the superior judiciary of Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Court on Thursday.
The petitioner requested the court to declare appointments of retired judges in the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Appellate Court as illegal, unconstitutional and against fundamental rights, thus liable to be set aside. He further asked the court to set up a Judicial Commission for appointments of judges in the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Court.
He said judges appointed in the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Court are over 65 years of age which is against the laws. He requested the court to declare Articles 5, 6, 8 and 60 of the proposed law 2009 for Gilgit as unconstitutional, as these articles are against fundamental rights and also against the norms of justice.
