Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Athar Abbas refuted reports of any immediate operation in North Waziristan on Tuesday, adding that at the moment the entire focus was on Kurram Agency and the operation in Mohmand Agency was at its end.
In an exclusive interview to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Urdu and Voice of America (VOA), he stated that more than 1,500 militants had laid down their arms in Mohmand Agency, while numerous terrorists were killed in the military operation.
He said the military was conducting its operations in the country’s tribal regions without external support. He said the Pakistani military was using its own equipment, ammunition and other resources to fight al Qaeda and Taliban militants along the Afghan border.
He said further that the people who were returning to their homes in war-torn areas such as Bajaur, Mohmand and Orakzai were being looked after by Pakistan Army and the administration.
Abbas confirmed the contents of a recently-released video of Taliban executing captured policemen and said the Taliban who executed the policemen came from Swat Valley, an area that used to be controlled by the militant group.
