Traders protest against HESCO for power outages

Dozens of traders and people from all walks of life held a demonstration against prolonged electricity load shedding, blocking the MA Jinnah Road for two hours on Monday. The protesters chanted slogans against the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) and created hurdles for the traffic by burning tyres.
They said that they had been suffering financial losses due to frequent power failures in the city. The shopping centres remain deprived of power supply for the past 24 hours, they added. The demonstrators said that power outages had been causing hardships for the business community in the hot weather, besides burdening them with extra expenses of running generators.
They said that the city life was paralysed with 18 hours of load shedding. They ended the protest after intervention by the police. They were assured that power would be restored soon. Following the end of the protest, the flow of traffic resumed.
