Two students were injured in a brawl between supporters of Defence Analyst Zahid Hamid and students of local universities here on Sunday at an event organised by Sir Syed Memorial Society. The fight erupted while Zaid Hamid was giving a speech on Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Police sources said a student of COMSAT, who was later identified as Ghulam Muhammad, raised objection on Zahid’s credibility and asked him about his link with Yousaf Kazzab, who falsely claimed prophethood. Upon this, Zaid Hamid and his supporter started beating the student. To rescue their colleague, some five to six students of COMSAT and Bahria University also jumped into the fight.
During the fight, two students Gulam Bashir and Shafat Munib got injured and approached Secretariat Police Station. Talking to Pakistan Today, ASI Zahid Mahmood of Secretariat Police said the injured students had lodged their application with Secretariat PS. However, he said that no FIR was registered yet as talks for settling the matter were underway between both parties.
