Parents stage violent protest after newborn dies at hospital

A newborn reportedly died at a private medical centre, following which its family members tortured the medical centre’s staff and vandalised immovable property of the hospital. The family staged a protest against gross negligence on the part of the doctors and other hospital staff.
The town police have registered a case against the doctors and other staff of the hospital on Sunday. The report said that the newborn had died of negligence of the hospital staff, whereas its family members had attacked the hospital and wrecked its furniture as well as tortured the hospital staff.
Complainant Javed Ali Leghari lodged a case of negligence against Dr Qamarunnisa and four others. The doctor told this scribe that Leghari’s wife was brought to the hospital two hours late, which resulted in complications during delivery.
She said that the newborn was breathing with difficulty as water had filled its lungs, and despite providing it with oxygen, the baby died of weakness.
Hospital administrator Yasir Iqbal said that the protesters attacked and tortured the hospital staff without any reason.
He said that they had destroyed the furniture and robbed the hospital of cash as well as snatched mobile phones from many people.
He also said that Mirpurkhas District Health Officer Haneef Baloch had also arrived at the hospital and used abusive language, threatening of dire consequences to the staff of the hospital.
Baloch also forcibly took away the official record of the hospital, he added.
On the complaint of Leghari, the police registered First Information Report under Section 319-34 against Dr Qamarunnisa and all the night shift staff of the hospital.
