Ramadan is coming up. In other words, the month of revenue increase is coming up. All traders’ faces will have lit up. Normally when any religious festival comes in any country, the prices of goods decrease in honour and respect of that festival. But in Pakistan, the situation is exactly the opposite: here prices rise. Even items of basic use are far from the reach of the middle and lower classes in this month.
In Pakistan, everyone is living a life beleaguered with inflation. Due to poverty, people have no access to basic food items, especially so around such occasions as Ramadan. Why is all the burden being lifted by the poor people? Why are items of daily use taxed while luxury items used by the rich and the privileged free of taxes?
Why the government can’t control the prices of goods? The patience of the people is running out. Can any government representative answer these simple questions?
