It gives me immense pleasure to know that daily Pakistan Today has also been launched from Islamabad and would now be available to the readers of the twin cities. I would like to congratulate the editor and the management of the newspaper on this launch. Daily Pakistan Today has established itself as a credible newspaper within a short span of time and won accolades for its objective reporting, incisive editorials and in-depth op-eds.
The present government regards free media as an important and integral part of the democratisation process. It has, in my view, a central role in building a civilised society and ensuring transparency in the system through availability of informed opinion. Access to information and freedom of expression as enunciated by the constitution provide the basis for an independent media. The media not only informs and educates the masses but also furnishes guidance to the government by pointing out flaws in the policies. We appreciate this role of the media. However, in doing so, it must exercise utmost objectivity in its reporting.
I hope that the launch of daily Pakistan Today would prove to be a useful addition for projection of the economic issues and would guide the government in adoption of good economic policies. I wish the newspaper all the success.
