At least eight more people, including a political activist, were shot dead by unidentified armed persons in different violent incidents across the city on Sunday. A branch of a private bank and a water tanker were also set on fire by an angry mob in a spurt of violence between Saturday and Sunday. As per reports, 33-year-old Wali Muhammad, son of Ismail, was gunned down by motorcyclists in Kehkashan Society in the jurisdiction of Alfalah police station.
Duty officer at the police station said that the body of the deceased was handed over to his family after post-mortem.
In Azeem Pura and Pathan Goth, the overall situation of the area continued to be tense as shops and markets were forcibly shut down by unidentified armed persons after the killing of Pakistan People’s Party’s Amir Shah. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Rashida, wife of Muhammad Hussain, lost her life to a stray bullet in Machhar Colony when she was standing on the rooftop of her house.
The victim was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi. A case was registered against unknown suspects. Eighteen-year-old Rafiullah, son of Samiullah, was killed by motorcyclists outside his house in Orangi Sector 11½. The teenager was on his way to work when suspects on a motorcycle opened fire on him. The victim was killed over personal enmity, it was learnt from the police.
First Information Report (FIR) No 261/11 under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code was filed on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
Zaran Ghazali, 25, was shot dead by unknown assailants during the early hours of Sunday at the MT Khan Road.
The Awami National Party (ANP) claimed Ghazali as its activist. However, police denied the ANP’s claims and said that he had no political affiliation.
Police registered FIR No 400/11 under Sections 302 and 34 on the complaint of the victim’s father.
Sajid Shan Gul, Zahid Ramzan and Jahanzaib Aurangzaib were killed in an ambush by unidentified armed men near the Baldia Football Ground.
An ANP activist was gunned down by unidentified persons in Block 10 of the FB Area late Saturday night.
The deceased was later identified as 28-year-old Javed Afzal who was an active member of the ANP’s FB Area Ward. The Gulberg police said that the victim was standing outside his house when some unidentified men opened fire on him.
