It is indeed a matter of immense pleasure for me to know that Mr Arif Nizami, ex-Editor of The Nation, has launched a daily newspaper Pakistan Today from Rawalpinid/Islamabad in July this year. The services of Mr Arif Nizami for the promotion of objective journalism as well as democratic values in the country will be remembered for ever and the articles and columns he has written in the press are an asset for the readers.
Undoubtedly, healthy journalism plays an important role in the development of a country and it is my conviction that the daily Pakistan Today, under the patronship of Mr Arif Nizami, will contribute to promoting healthy journalism in the country. The ANP-led provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa believes in freedom of expression and admires the positive role of media persons in the ongoing war against terrorism in the country.
We also appreciate and respect the sacrifices of journalists who lost their lives for raising their voices against militancy and terrorism. Their sacrifices are now part of the journalistic history. I hope that daily Pakistan Today will guide the government in eradicating social evils including the menace of militancy and terrorism from the society.
