The US has assured Pakistan of continued civilian assistance and help in energy sector projects, Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh told Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday. The finance minister apprised the PM about the communication made to him by US Deputy Secretary of State Thomas R Nides.
He said the US had also showed willingness to undertake major projects in the energy sector, including the Diamer Basha Dam and preparation of a programme to reflect priorities set by the government of Pakistan. Shaikh also briefed Gilani about his discussion on the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) which was the reimbursement of expenditure incurred by the government in the war against terror.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the future plans for the development projects and other macroeconomic variables. The prime minister asked Shaikh to accelerate work on development agenda of the government in view of the enhanced availability of funds in the current fiscal year.
