Sweden’s Robin Soderling and Spain’s David Ferrer on Saturday easily secured their spots in the final of the ATP Swedish Open tennis tournament in Bastad.
Soderling, ranked fifth in the world, beat world number eight Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-0, with the semi-final match ending after only 71 minutes.
“But it was actually much tougher than the numbers show. I am enormously happy with my performance,” Soderling was quoted by the Aftonbladet tabloid as saying.
“It’s incredibly fun to play this well. It’s been a while since I have felt like this,” he told the TV4 channel after the match.
“Now there is only one game left. I hope I’ll have a good game then too.” Soderling will face Ferrer in the final on Sunday.
Ferrer, who is the world number six, also had a straightforward path to the final, beating his compatriot Nicolas Almagro, the world number 14, 6-1, 6-3. “He made a lot of mistakes, that made the game go quickly. Now I have time to rest before the final,” Ferrer, who has never lots against Almagro, told TV4. Soderling and Ferrer have played against each other 13 times and Soderling has won nine of their matches.
