The Sharjah Cricket Stadium is staking claim to reorganize international cricket by holding upgradation and construction at the venue to make it eligible to host Test playing nations.
The stadium was closed by top Test playing nations after it did not meet the ICC requirements but at a time when Pakistan is to host Sri Lanka and England in the coming seasons, Sharjah Stadium is being fine tuned to meet the levels. And there are chances that a couple of the Pakistan’s home matches would be played at the venue which was once the Pakistan team’s hunting ground.
According to an official of the Sharjah Cricket, the purpose of construction at the venue is to bring back international cricket to Sharjah. Although the venue was being used by associate member country teams but now it is being upgraded to the standards with a view to host the Pakistan’s upcoming matches.
It was in 2002 when Pakistan last played its home away from homes series against Australia and since then no test playing nation assembled to play a match there and with the Pakistan’s home series approaching, its likely that it would be Pakistan’s home away from home venue.
