Politicians from different rival parties stepped up criticism of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) over its MNA Aqeel Anjum’s fleeing from police custody incident and declared it to be a reflection of PML-N’s mindset.
They also came down hard on the PML-N leadership for not suspending Aqeel Anjum’s party membership as well as initiating disciplinary action against him. They said an attack on police station was a flagrant violation of the law and Nawaz Sharif must refine his party from such law breakers. They said those sitting in the power corridors in Punjab should indulge in introspection before pointing the finger at others.
Secretary General Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Samiullah Khan, Deputy Parliamentary leader of PPP in Punjab Assembly Shaukat Basra and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) leader Javaid Badr said the PML-N has always tried to act against the law, be it the incident of attacking the Supreme Court or firing during PML-N rally in Faisalabad. Women Wing Lahore President, Faiza Malik said that PML-N had proved itself as a non-serious party by attacking the police station for releasing a culprit.
Opposition members of PML-Q have claimed that PML-N was promoting lawlessness. PML-Q Members Punjab Assembly including Amna Ulfat, Dr Samaya Amjad and Khadija Farooqi said Saturday that PML-N activists’ attacks on Rawalpindi and Lahore police stations to free their party men. They questioned that how the chief minister could control increased 50 percent crimes in the province if he could not control his own party. Opposition members asked the civil society not ignore the incidents like Anjum Aqeel’s escape.
Meanwhile, another opposition member of PML-Q, Zubia Rubab Malik has claimed that Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) had been converted into a private hospital. She alleged that doctors of the PIC, which was being run with government resources, were receiving millions of rupees besides getting salaries in the name of doctors’ shares. Zubia said that she had submitted an adjournment motion in Punjab Assembly Secretariat to take up the issue in the next session.
