Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel, who surrendered to police on Saturday, 24 hours after his escape, was brought to a local court amid tight security on Sunday.
The PML-N lawmaker is facing corruption charges in National Police Foundation (NPF) land scam case.
Judicial Magistrate Kashif Qayyum sent the accused to one-day police remand.
Aqeel’s counsel pled for physical examination of Anjum Aqeel, which the court granted. He would be taken to PIMS Hospital for medical examination.
Earlier, the parliamentarian, who is accused of defrauding a schoolteacher, had escaped from Shalimar Police Station. The police station was attacked by armed aides of Anjum. Sources said that Anjum later courted arrest at Kohsar Police Station under pressure from the PML-N leadership.
Many of the MNA’s supporters were present outside when he was produced before the court.
