Lahore observes Shab-e-Baraat with reverence

Shab-e-Baraat was observed with religious fervor last night while Punjab government came up with zero tolerance policy regarding check on the use of fireworks.
Shab-e-Baraat is considered a sacred night when the fate of every individual for the following year is decided by God. Fireworks on the night of Shabaan 15 are a common practice. However the show of pyrotechnics has caused accidents claiming loss of innumerable lives and valuables since years. Keeping this in view, the government had decided to imply a zero-tolerance policy over fireworks this year. A massive crackdown was carried out against people involved in pyrotechnics sale.
According to superintendent of police (SP) (Security), three checking points were setup in the city to keep security for Data Darbar and Imambargahs on high-alert. The security on other shrines and mosques was also beefed up for public safety as night-long prayers were offered at several places in the provincial metropolis including Data Darbar and Bibi Pakdaman.
District Coordination Officer Lahore Ahad Cheema had announced to enforce section 144 against the use of fireworks in the city. He had directed police and Rescue 1122 to remain active and keep a keen eye on people dealing in pyrotechnics. He directed to constitute a body of town administrator and local police officials to ensure the ban on fireworks. The team acted against pyrotechnics makers, sellers and users. He said station house officer of the concerned police station would be responsible if fireworks were used in an area. He also directed to enhance security measures at important religious places and mosques. The DCO asked the police to keep a check on Ravi Bridge where massive fireworks show happens every year.
