The city police on Sunday claimed that they have arrested 151 street criminals during the ongoing year.
A spokesman for Islamabad police said that police have seized looted items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, 138 mobile phones and eleven cars from criminals.
“A special plan was prepared by SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan to curb street crime and SHOs and patrolling officers were warned to be vigilant,” he said. The police spokesman said the police kept track of hardcore and monitored their movements, which is why they were able to arrest a number of proclaimed offenders, he added.
He said the City Circle Police arrested 25 street criminals, Saddar Circle police arrested 74 persons, and Industrial Circle police arrested 28 while Rural Zone nabbed 24 street criminals. “A total of 138 stolen mobile phones were seized from criminals and and 18 stolen vehicles impounded,” he said. IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan praised the performance of police. He, however, directed them to be more vigilant. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan directed all sub-divisional police Officers (SDPOs) and station house officers (SHOs) to take stern action against anti-social elements.
