UNHCR asks Pakistan to sign Convention on Refugees

UNHCR Country Representative Mangesha Kebede called on the Interior Minister Rehman Malik in Islamabad on Friday and asked Pakistan to sign the 51st Convention on Refugees.
He also discussed difficulties being faced by Afghan refugees and matters related to the signing of Convention on Refugees.
Expressing concern, the interior minister said the Afghan refugees violated UNHCR rules and left for Kabul without getting registered.
To ensure implementation of UNHCR rules, he assured full cooperation to the UNHCR. He said Pakistan had welcomed the Afghan brothers and hoped that they will abide by Pakistani laws and will follow rules of UNHCR.
He said the Pakistan government expects Afghan refugees to refrain from crimes and assured full support to the UNHCR.
