Former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Friday said that the government was making policies at the behest of the IMF and said it could ruin country’s economy, a private TV channel reported. He said this while addressing a seminar titled “Proposed Increase in Gas Price & GST on Fertilizer Industry—-Impact on Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Productivity.”
Qureshi was of the view that the government was devising policies without consulting all the stakeholders involved. He said that was why all sectors of national economy were facing the crunch. Opposing the proposed increase in the gas price and GST on fertilizers, he urged the government to hold thorough discussions before deciding on economic issues. Qureshi said, “The food scarcity is a major threat facing the country and the only way to avert it is to increase the agricultural yield.
