A documentary portraying the political story of Sarah Palin debuts Friday in a handful of US theaters, as the right-wing conservative darling remains on the fence about whether she’ll enter the 2012 presidential race.
“The Undefeated,” directed by Stephen Bannon, describes Palin through interviews with her admirers and supporters, according to media sources that have seen the film. Bannon, a conservative who does not hide his admiration for Palin, personally financed the million-dollar film. “This film is a call to action for a campaign like 1976: Reagan versus the establishment. Let’s have a good old-fashioned brouhaha,” Bannon said recently during an interview. As viewers watch scenes from her time as a mayor and governor of Alaska to the moment she was tapped as John McCain’s vice presidential running mate in the last presidential election, Palin is not directly interviewed in the film, though she does narrate some scenes. The Hollywood Reporter describes the opening minutes as a montage of clips in which movie stars such as Matt Damon,
Madonna and David Letterman insult or discredit Palin. The film will debut in dozens of theaters in Texas, Florida and Arizona, but not in Los Angeles, New York or Alaska.
