The PML-N’s efforts to form a grand alliance of opposition parties fizzled out on Friday as its new-found ally on the opposition benches – the MQM – put its weight behind JUI-F’s Abdul Ghafoor Haideri as the Senate opposition leader, shattering the Nawaz-league’s hopes of winning the backing for Ishaq Dar.
Behind-the-scene contacts between the government emissaries and the MQM appear to have worked to isolate the PML-N in parliament. PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, among other critical issues, had also discussed with MQM leaders the issue of the appointment of Senate opposition leader. And the MQM demonstrated its support to the JUI-F by submitting an application with the Senate Secretariat in support of Haideri.
After the PML-Q joined the coalition government, the PML-N had moved to clinch the slot of leader of the opposition in the Senate, but the former practically managed this slot for the JUI-F, albeit it did not have a clear majority in the Upper House despite being the single largest party. With the MQM now supporting the JUI-F, the PML-N will be clearly outnumbered. Following the nomination of Haideri, the PML-N strongly protested the Senate chairman’s decision and a heated debated continued in the House during the budget session, with the chairman reserving his ruling after listening to legal and constitutional in-house arguments. Before the MQM’s support, it was expected that the ruling would possibly come out in favour of PML-N’s Ishaq Dar. But the MQM move has not only widened the gulf between the already divided opposition parties, but also dashed the PML-N’s hopes of grabbing the slot of the leader of opposition in the Senate.
The Upper House, which is likely to be summoned on July 21, may witness another round of heated arguments between senators of various political parties over the issue of Senate opposition leader’s appointment, with the PML-N arguing for a decision based on situation before the MQM joined the opposition. Senate Chairman Farooq Naik’s reserved ruling on the issue is expected in a few days.
OOH I would love to see the facial expressions of Nawaz Sharif if anyone caught in picture or cartoon?
The question is which party needed the other most. Neither party has the ability to keep the promises it makes – it was going to be a marriage made in hell. MQM was made by General Zia to destroy PPP Jialas – PPPs hold on Karachi ended. PPP ghoondaism replaced with MQM ghoondaism. Nawaz Shari has most recently been railing against the generals – was Chief Minister of Punjab during General Zia's time. Altaf Hussain and Nawaz Sharif owe their political careers to General Zia-ul-Haq. The PPP owes its existence to General Ayub Khan ZA Bhutto was the foreign minister in Ayub Khan's cabinet.
Nawaz Sharif has been punished by nature for his 'tuukbar'-farooniaat' to spurn Choudries, the naster craftmen of politics. But he chose MQM the vicious foot soldiers of Musharrag.MQM for partering him despite their worst possible personal insults to him ,while Zulfikar Mirza to MQM-Altaf were too litlle to unleash killing spree on this pretext though it had already started aftter Azad Kasmir seats controversy taking toll of hundred of poor lives. This was jusr fraud yet Nawaz Sharif chose the target killers of thousans to support who again showed him door by support MMA hIADERI AS OPPOSITION LEADER IN SENATE.nAWAZ sharif is man with very low IQ and his wealth cannot compensate. His 'sambundi';,Ishaq DAR HAS EXPLOUITED HIM WELL TO build his business empire and only damaged Nawaz SHARIF AND ml-m.NEW SELFLESS PROPLE SHOULD BE TAKEN BY nAWAZ sHARIF TO BE GUIDED OR HE OBLIRTERARES AND DAMAGES pAKISTAN MORE AND MORE.
The PML-N seems to have entered troubled waters by trying to court the MQM into a grand national alliance because the latter has put the former in a difficult position by first creating instability in Karachi, mounting a fierce opposition to the commissionerate system introduced by the PPP in Sindh and now supporting Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri as the opposition leader against PML-N’s explicit desire to nominate Senator Ishaq Dar for this post. On top of it all, MQM chief Altaf Hussain has issued an equivocal statement that the MQM will sit in the opposition but continue to support the government’s positive steps. In this scenario, what will happen to PML-N’s dream of a grand alliance against the government? Having developed differences with both JUI-F and MQM over the appointment of leader of the opposition in Senate, how does it plan to make the proposed alliance effective at the national level? It seems that very soon it will prove a marriage of inconvenience and both the parties will be back to square one. The alliance between both the parties was highly unnatural because of a wide gulf of ideological differences. Furthermore, neither people nor leader of both the parties would have forgotten the shameful verbal brawl that infuriated the nation. Soon both the parties will part ways, because of arrogance of PML-N and tenacity of MQM.
