Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) activists held a protest against Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran and Chief Security Officer (CSO) Major (r) Arif Butt, who ordered thrashing of IJT activists for holding an information session regarding admissions to the varsity.
IJT activists condemned behaviour of the administration against their workers and said that the administration was taking revenge against them for guiding students. A number of IJT activists, who according to them were allegedly tortured by the administration on Friday on holding an admissions information session, held a protest in front of the PU Jamia Mosque. They chanted slogans against the administration and demanded removal of the PU VC, as according to them, the VC had failed and was not capable to run the affairs of the varsity.
IJT activists claimed that their workers were just promoting academic activities and wanted to guide new students but the administration was torturing them. On Friday, the varsity administration also sought help of police to beat IJT activists and stopped the information session and confiscated their luggage. According to sources, Arif Butt is responsible for this incident, as he is playing a double game with the VC by inciting students against the administration.
On the other hand, the PU spokesman said that the IJT neither could guide nor is capable of guiding students seeking admissions in the varsity, as they were political activists only. These activists neither read books nor have any tendency towards education. The administration, taking action in time, had stopped an illegal activity in connection with the entry test. The spokesman said that IJT activists were the main culprits and involved in car and motorcycle theft incidents and the organisation was playing an immoral role.
He said that IJT hooligans were only fond of beating other students. The PU spokesman said that outsiders might be inciting them and the IJT was involved in all recent firing incidents. The spokesman clarified that security guards did not beat any IJT activist but activists misbehaved with teachers and abused the VC. The spokesman said that IJT activists sent false SMS to journalists to get their attention.
