In the wake of the ongoing military action against militants in various parts of Central Kurram Agency, the displacement of people towards relatively settled areas like Sadda, Hangu and other parts and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is in progress. The government with the collaboration of the UNHCR has established a camp at Daranai near Sadda Town.
But a majority of those displaced are reluctant to stay in camps. In a bid to discourage the IDPs movement towards Peshawar, the administration has established another camp at Togh Sarayee near Hangu. FATA Disaster Management Director General Arshad Khan told Pakistan Today that around 1,200 IDPs are present in the Daranai camp while at least 9,000 families are living with relatives, friends or in rented houses.
He said that so far no one has come to stay in Togh Sarayee camp near Hangu. Local sources told this scribe that around 173 families were residing in schools and other government buildings in Sadda Town and its adjoining areas while more than 1,900 families are living in Dawaba area of Hangu district with their relatives and friends.
