The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Thursday referred the case against Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Moonis Elahi, involved in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam, to district and sessions judge Lahore.
The CJ also directed federal government to issue a notification authorising the district and sessions judge to hear the matter. Earlier, Special Judge Banking Offence (central) Malik Abdul Rasheed on July 5 had refused to proceed with the case and referred it to the LHC chief justice for fixing the matter before another court after the counsel for Moonis had challenged the court’s jurisdiction to record the statement of co-accused Muhammad Maalick under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The court was hearing the case against Moonis Elahi, his Manager Abdul Maalick, Rizwan Bhatti and Khalil Ahmad for receiving Rs 320 million from the NICL scam through bogus account.
