Giving a shoulder?

Eight hundred and seventy nine police officers of Sindh Police, who were promoted earlier by their seniors or the department through shoulder promotions, have been demoted following the decision of the Supreme Court.

This practice of shoulder promotions is common in the police department, and mostly those considered as blue eyed officers are promoted under this pretext. This practice, however, is not official and has not been ratified by the police department.

Most of the officers promoted under this scheme were from Sindh Police, while the other three Inspector Generals’ of police had no record of shoulder promotions in their respective provinces.

This surely is a very timely and much needed decision by the apex court. Unnecessary favours extended by senior officers to the blue eyed boys of the police department only contribute to the frustration of those officers who work tirelessly and get nothing in return.
