Scores of youngsters from Parachinar on Werdnesday staged a demonstration against the closure of Thall-Parachinar Road.
Youths of Parachinar (YoP) organised a demonstration on the completion of the three months of their protest against the failure of the government to lift the siege of their area. The youth belonging to Parachinar set up a protest camp three months ago to pressurise the government to accept their demands.
The protesters chanted slogans against Interior Minister Rehman Malik who had promised to reopen the blocked road. Speaking on the occasion, their leaders said that owing to the apathy of the government, many innocent people had been killed and kidnapped by Taliban.
“An area where 500,000 people reside cannot be closed for such a long time by any militant group. As supplies cannot reach here and the people cannot travel safely, the government must take necessary steps to improve the situation,” said a representative of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen.
Another speaker said the life had become miserable for the masses, economy shattered, educational career of students spoiled, daily-use commodities were not available and hospitals lacked medicines where patients were dying. He lamented all this was happening owing to the closure of Tall-Parachinar road which connected the Kurram Agency to Peshawar.
