Islooites yearn for next spell of rain

Hit hard by muggy conditions, the residents of the federal capital are anxiously waiting for the next spell of the monsoon rains, which, according to the Met Office, is likely to occur today (Thursday).
Metrological Department Director General Arif Mehmood told Pakistan Today that a third spell of monsoon rains was expected to occur in the next 24 hours. He, however, said that the intensity of rain would be 15 to 20 millimeters (MM). The monsoon rains, he said, have started to lash the upper parts of the country and were likely to continue for the next two to three days. He said the hot whether would continue for the next two or three months. He said rain was expected in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions as well as Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas during the next 24 to 48 hours.
The residents of the capital city are anxiously waiting for the next spell of monsoon rains which would likely to decrease the temperature and give them some relief from power outages.
The factors that worsen the situation further for people include monsoon mugginess, heat-related diseases and an unchecked sale of unhygienic beverages. People face acute power cuts during daytime when the average temperature is around 38 degrees Celsius.
An SDO at the IESCO’s local compliant cell, Umair, told Pakistan Today that power outage would decrease with a decrease in hot weather. People believe the current summer is a nightmare for them. Naseema Umer, a housewife, said power outages have disrupted routine life of every household. She said repeated breakdowns and voltage fluctuations damage electrical appliances every other day.
