At least 14 people sick with cholera have been brought to the local basic health unit (BHU) in Ghunda Shamshaki area of District Karak.
Locals on Wednesday said that five out of the 14 patients belonged to the same family.
Ten of them got treatment at the BHU while four were referred to Karak DHQ Hospital because of their precarious condition.
The families of some of the patients told Pakistan Today that rainwater could be the reason behind the cholera breakout since they had been consuming it. They feared that cholera might spread over a wider area.
People Primary Health Initiative (PPHI) Executive Monitoring Officer Ahmad Nawaz Khattak told this scribe that they were providing medicine and transportation to the basic health unit concerned.
Health EDO Dr Abdur Rasheed said that a medical team had been sent to the affected area to check the spread of the disease.
