The outstanding dues of petrol pumps under the heads of petrol and diesel purchased by the now-defunct towns and city governments will be paid soon, said Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Hussain Syed.
He said this during a visit to different areas of the city on Wednesday with the deputy commissioners concerned to review cleanliness conditions, civic facilities, law and order and other matters.
“To avert any problem in the city, civic bodies should therefore continue the usage of fuel for vehicles pertaining to essential services specially ambulances, fire brigade and solid waste management vehicles,” added Syed.
The Commissioner also inspected the deputy commissioners’ (DC) Offices. For immediate coordination between the police and the district administration, he directed the DCs to call the meeting of district officers and formulate a better strategy regarding the law and order condition in their respective areas.
Taking strict notice of the suspension of provision of petrol and diesel by some petrol pump owners to the vehicles of solid waste management, Syed directed all DCs to solve petrol and diesel crises without any delays and assured the pump owners that their dues will be cleared within a few days.
He said the cleanliness work is underway in city on a war-footing basis and all DCs are monitoring them.
Along with Central DC Matanat Ali Khan, he visited North Nazimabad Block-L, New Karachi Sector 11-D, Shahrah-e-Orangi, Kati Pahari, Qasba Colony and other areas. West DC Ghanor Khan Laghari accompanied the Commissioner on his visit to Pak Colony, SITE, Manghopir and Metroville. Syed also paid a visit to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Dhoraji with DC East Shoukat Hussain Jokhio. Afterwards, he also went to the Malir District and besides reviewing civic facilities, met with the people to know about their complaints.
Meanwhile, all former town administration officials, staff and resources have been put under the control of DCs concerned so that any hurdle in the discharge of civic affairs especially cleanliness work could be averted.
The Commissioner said all organisations concerned must make it their preference to lift and dispatch garbage to landfill sites without delays. Mechanical sweeping machinery was also brought to roads from July 13 and the repair and maintenance of roads and street lights was also started.
