Violence in Karachi

Arif Nizami’s recent analysis of the situation in Karachi under the title of ‘City of blights’ is highly appreciated.

Last night, I was watching a TV programme in which a leader of ANP was complaining that electronic as well as print media were responsible for providing respectability to thugs in Karachi. He was quite right to say that TV channels have to interrupt any program on air to show hysterical speeches of the megalomaniac leader who is not even in the country.

I can say with utmost confidence that if the British government puts a bar on him and refrains him from preaching, strikes, protests and violence in Karachi, the situation will improve rapidly.

  1. Mr Solangi is so right when he states no media house, be it electronic or print has not had a brush with strong arm tactics of MQM. Some TV chanels have assumed the role of an official mouthpiece of this ethnic party that has resorted to politics of violence. Almost every channel will stop their regular programmes to broadcast the telephonic speech of Altaf Hussain, something which they will not do if Nawaz Shariff or Afzandyar Wali, or Munawar Hussain, or Imran Khan and even Ch Shujaat were addressing or making a public speech.
